How would you define Architecture?
Buildings? Drawings? Art? Many of us have different perceptions about
Architecture. A general term to some but a broad meaning to us,
Architects.
Here in the Philippines, when you take Architecture course in College, you will embrace it for five years for you to understand its true meaning. Actually, until now, the learning process is constant even that I have now my own license.
Now, let me show you some definitions
of Architecture that I got from different sources.
- The art or
practice of designing and constructing buildings; and
- The complex or carefully designed structure of something
- Architecture (Latin architectura, from the Greek ἀρχιτέκτων arkhitekton "architect," from ἀρχι- "chief" and τέκτων "creator") is both the process and the product of planning, designing, and constructing buildings or any other structures. Architectural works, in the material form of buildings, are often perceived as cultural symbols and as works of art. Often, historical civilizations identify with their surviving architectural achievements.
- The profession of
designing buildings, open areas, communities, and other artificial
constructions and environments, usually with some regard to aesthetic
effect. Architecture often includes design or selection of furnishings and
decorations, supervision of construction work, and the examination,
restoration, or remodeling of existing buildings.
- The character or style of building: the
architecture of Paris; Romanesque architecture.
- The action or process of building;
construction.
- The result or product
of architectural work, as a building.
- Buildings collectively.
- A fundamental underlying design of computer hardware, software, or both.
- Architecture is
the art of planning, designing, and constructing building.
- The architecture of a building is the style in
which it is designed and constructed.
- The architecture of something is its structure.
- The definition of
architecture are the characteristics or features of a design that makes
something like a building or a computer program unique or representative
of a specific place, design style, or era.
- Architecture is defined as the method of designing and building something into a usable, pleasing form.
- the art or
science of building; specifically: the art or practice
of designing and building structures and especially habitable ones
- formation or
construction resulting from or as if from a conscious act
- a unifying or
coherent form or structure
- architectural product or
work
- a method or style of building
- An architecture
of a structure is a total concept of a structure, containing a coherent
set of constructional theories, operative ideas and decorative concepts.
- Architecture, as
a field of work, is the art and science of designing and building
structures, such as churches, houses, and bridges. But also organizations
like enterprises and governmental institutions.
- Architecture, as
in an architecture of a structure, is a total concept consisting of a set
of coherent, constructive, operative, and decorative ideas (that is or to
be) applied onto a structure.
- Architecture, in general, can be seen as a conceptual structure with three dimensions: operation, decoration, and construction.
Architecture may be translated by different dictionaries; it will always come out with a beautiful result. Just look around, the world has been already designed by our Great Architect.
